In Person Only
This Sunrise Meditative Drawing workshop is for anyone interested in using art as a form of healing, introspection, and connection. Beginners and experienced artists and meditators are all welcome!
For this workshop, I will be sharing an interdisciplinary approach to instruct/guide participants into an observation of the external environment while bringing awareness close to the body. Through embodied awareness we will begin drawing using line as a map into the present moment using the sensations present within the physical, emotional and spatial body. We will use writing, sound, and movement, with the main focus on visual work.
I began using a specific technique for creating line drawings in 2015 that is based off of the formation of the body within the womb. As someone who is recovering from CPTSD and anxiety, I have always used art as a way to process emotions. When I began healing somatically through a variety of modalities and practices including acupuncture, herbalism, wilderness therapy, movement and meditation I began to find it challenging to create artwork that was not dwelling in the wounds relating to my trauma. When studying phenomenology, I resonated deeply with observation of the environment and the body as a source of inspiration. At this time I created a form of drawing that allowed me to remain present in the moment, within my body, while allowing emotions to come and go. After years of being with this drawing practice, I continued my own healing and learning through somatic therapy, Vipassana Meditation, and Biodynamic Regenerative Systems Design. After spending copious times alone in the wilderness (up to 3 months) I recognized a pattern that runs through not only our bodies, but all things in nature. Observing landscapes recovering from trauma mirror the scar tissue on my knees.
I have offered this workshop three times before, and each time it shifts as I continue to learn and grow as an artist who integrates healing into my work. I am excited to be sharing this workshop here, in Joshua Tree, where the striking yet harsh landscape offers a unique lens into the inner landscapes we are all moving through.
The outdoor (shaded) space we will be working is located at a homestead where I along with the homeowners have stewarded through composting, reintroducing native plants, and creating rainwater and erosion gardens. This 2 hour and 45 min class will begin with a guided meditation at 6:15am as the sun begins to rise. After meditation we will have tea and a group introduction followed by multiple steps of gently guided drawing practice, observations, movement, and reflection. Participants should plan to pack a breakfast/snack and plenty of water. Information on location, parking, and how to prepare will be sent after registering for this.

The Mind Body Connectivity and Release workshop was wonderful and unique. Jaime held a curiosity-centered, exploratory space for connecting with our beings through our bodies and our creativity. The individuality of our expression was highlighted in the reflection and exploration of our fingerprints, and dissolved into universality as we began to co-create stories of flow and connectivity through the lines and markings we added to each others drawings. Self-identifying “artists” and “non-artists” alike could find many rememberings and viable seeds through the inner-inquiries and exploration facilitated within this container.
